Just deleted a previous version that was posted on a freeware site and installed 4.1.1 directly from Bookmark. Everything that was a bugger about the previous version I was using (difficult engine starting, condensation effects and braking chute not being visible) are no longer present. The only problem is that I still can’t get the AB to light. I also have a HYDII warning light that won’t go away and the emergency generator is constantly deployed.
I read the page on the prerequisites needed for the burner to operate and didn’t see the HYDII system as one of them although I would thing it would be needed to run the eyelids (which also do not move). Are they related and how do I solve it?
Otherwise, great simulation! Looks right, the VC is fantastic and the textures are beautiful!P.S. I am using FSX Acceleration on Windows 7
December 27, 2014 at 17:37 #1221Just restarted FSX and my HYDII problem went away, but still no reheat.
December 27, 2014 at 19:00 #1222The HYDII problem is still there, unless I load another plane first with the engine running. After that I can shut down and restart the Draken’s engine with no problem. I went into the aircraft config file and the afterburner threshold was 0. I changed mine to .95 and now the afterburner works fine. (Although the nosewheel sometimes disappears on the runway, but whatever. For what I paid for it, I’m not complaining!) I’ve had the previous version of this for a couple of years, and it’s just nice to have all the effects working! Thank you Thomas for a wonderful model! Wish I knew how to do it!
December 27, 2014 at 20:04 #1223Well thank you, friend. :)
Just to make things clear, there are no authorized versions of Draken for FSX on any other websites, they are either leeched (stolen) from this site, or are old FS9 versions that have likewise been stolen, repackaged, and falsely advertised as FSX compatible. They may even (and have been known to) contain malware.
You did read the part about using Shift-F4 to light the afterburner, right? Changing the afterburner threshold to 0.95 will make the afterburner light up automatically on full throttle, which is unrealistic for Draken and probably not what you want. That way you will never achieve full military (dry) thrust and so will have degraded performance without afterburner. But it is of course up to you.
The hydraulic system sometimes “gets stuck” if you load Draken directly after starting FSX, but reloading the aircraft usually takes care of it. The problem is intermittent and I have not yet been able to find the cause. Am working on it though.
Cheers /Tom
December 28, 2014 at 04:19 #1224Would you suggest setting the threshold to 1.0? I do still need to use F4 to light the burner initially, but after that it lights at the very end of my throttle slider. If I used 1.0 I’d probably be past the point of my slider so I’d probably get full dry thrust and have to use F4 as you intended. I’ve only been messing with config files for a couple of months, so sometimes I’m shooting in the dark with adjustments, sometimes I can read and adjust stuff like this. (I was just happy getting it to light in the first place!)
Just to let you know I got my previous version from FS Freeware.net if you wanted to ask them to remove it. I can understand how even though it’s free, it still could be damaging to your reputation just from the bugs it had. (The version from your site installed cleanly with only the glitches I mentioned and is much more user friendly!) I just don’t know how I didn’t find your site right away when I Googled “SAAB Draken FSX” a year ago. Yesterday it was almost right at the top of the list!
One last request of you. I enjoy all of the freeware that is out and about on the internet
(like yourself, Piglet, Restauravia and Dino) but I would also like to stop just taking and start contributing. (Mainly because that there are planes I would like that aren’t made and I’m sure others would like them available.) What do you need to start a model from scratch or where do you learn how to do the texturing or any of this?December 28, 2014 at 17:00 #1225The default key command for afterburner/reheater is Shift-F4. F4 alone means 100% throttle.
As I said I don’t recommend changing the threshold in aircraft.cfg as it is set to zero for a reason. But feel free to experimment.
Regarding the website you mention: I tried to contact them some time ago but they did not respond even when I threatened them with legal action. I also tried contacting Danny Garnier (the uploader) directly. He is a total moron who thinks he’s doing me a favor and does not understand that his action is a criminal offense in both his country and mine. But this is basically a fact of life as a developer and I just try to ignore it.
If you want to start modeling and/or texturing I suggest you begin by installing the SDK for FSX. After that, a good starting point is fsdeveloper.com where you can find lots of tutorials and documentation.
Good luck! /Tom
December 28, 2014 at 23:33 #1226I did miss the SHIFT F4 portion. I will set the threshold to 0 and try again! Thanks for the website info, I can’t wait to dive head first into the pool!
